Public Speaking

jean-podiumHi I’m Jean LaMantia…

…with a personal message for anyone who books speakers for their organization or event-whether in a meeting, workshop, or conference setting.

(And if you’re a reporter, blogger, or other media representative, you too may find this interesting. I’d love to answer any questions you might have!)

In my work as a Registered Dietitian and Program Leader at the Wellspring Cancer Support Centres in Toronto, Ontario, I have the privilege of working with cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers on a regular basis –  providing nutritional education in the form of lectures and cooking demonstrations.

As the author of “The Essential Cancer Treatment Nutrition Guide and Cookbook”, former editor of the Canadian Dietitian Oncology Network Newsletter, and a provider of one-on-one nutrition counselling, I am fortunate to be able to “go global” with the kind of nutritional guidance anyone concerned with cancer needs to know.

Because I’m also a cancer survivor myself (Hodgkins Lymphoma, stage IIB extensive), you can rest assured that I speak from a place of deep compassion for – and personal understanding of – the issues patients and their families have to deal with every day.

Feedback from Attendees…
Of course, everyone gets something different from the books they read, or events they attend. Their “take-away” depends on their experience, and greatest concerns at the time. But according to feedback from clients, readers, and people attending my live presentations, this list covers the main things they’re most grateful for:
  • Credible nutrition information delivered by a registered dietitian who really “gets it”
  • Easing their anxiety by providing the opportunity to ask their questions, and express their fears and concerns
  • Relating to them as someone who has been there and understands what they are going through
  • Showing them the respect they deserve, and not trying to sell them on supplements or crazy diets
  • Entertaining them, and providing fun easy recipes and ideas they look forward to trying themselves at home
  • “Making it Easy” … providing them with professional nutrition recommendations that not only ease many of their concerns but are easy to implement, and taste good too!

jean-speakingThe Learning and the Sharing Never End

A strong commitment to a life of continuous learning is extremely important to me, so I can provide current state-of-the-art information on all aspects of nutrition and healthy eating.

This includes such cutting-edge information as how nutraceuticals, prebiotics, and probiotics work … how omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, and other nutrients can reduce inflammation, boost the immune system, and even kill cancer cells … how to favourably modify your diet to support your treatments … as well as how to optimize your body’s ability to suppress or reduce risk of cancer recurrence or development.

When you enlist me as a speaker, your audience members are sure to be thoroughly engaged in the presentation. And afterward, they’ll leave with…
  • Greater feelings of confidence, reassurance, and empowerment … with no more fear about food and nutrition, what they can eat, and what they should avoid
  • Solid take-home messages about how to keep themselves healthy
  • A better understanding about the nutrition and health news they read about in the media
  • A improved knowledge of label reading and other practical skills that they can use right away

Cancer Centres, Support Agencies and Support Groups

Are you planning a function for patients and family at your cancer centre? Planning a professional conference?

I am comfortable presenting to grand rounds at large teaching hospitals or small family and caregiver groups.

If you have a teaching kitchen then I can even present a cooking demonstration!

Fundraising Opportunities!

I have worked with several cancer support agencies to help with fundraising through sales of my book – The Essential Cancer Treatment Nutrition Guide and Cookbook. A nutrition session followed by book signing and sale is one way where I can help to raise valuable funds for your centre. Contact me for an option that will work with your group.

Reports, Bloggers and Media

I’m always happy to speak with reporters, bloggers or other media too, to answer your questions about nutrition and health.

Can’t Wait to Hear Your Ideas!

I look forward to serving you and your audience – of any size –  or demographic or venue. I can speak to a lecture hall of healthy people who have nutrition questions or a living room of cancer patients, caregivers and survivors.

Yours for better health through better nutrition,

Jean
